Contributor John Paul Thurlow’s illustration “Thea 1,” not to mention the language and details of the note he sent me this morning, gave me an idea. The story line goes that sex tapes of Thea and Cam appear on the Internet in the weeks after Cam’s disappearance. Further, the videos go viral, and since she’s underage, Thea makes national headlines. Looking at Thurlow’s illustration—and for the record, all I told him about her was that I thought was a pretty girl, and I knew she had a Louise Brooks bob, but beyond that, I wanted to see how he imaged her. In any case, seeing Thea for the first time, led me to thinking that, naturally, the media coin it, “the Lolita Virus.” Which would work well with a few things, namely Thea’s nickname for Foley: she calls him “Foley Foley,” because she thinks he’s such a perv.
